Coaching4Wellbeing™ is a coaching and coach development approach with the following characteristics:
- Evidence-based – supported by research findings from a range of scientific disciplines
- Holistic – addressing several aspects of a persons life, including: physical and mental health, social wellbeing and relationships, occupational and financial wellbeing and how these aspects are best aligned and integrated
- Professional – the C4W system is designed to be used by people with a professional background, for instance: nurses, teachers, doctors, human resource professionals, counsellors and psychotherapists, business coaches and others
- Accredited – training in the C4W system will be recognised / accredited by both relevant professional coaching bodies and a university
- Subject to Continuous Improvement – knowledge about the determinants of human wellbeing and what works in improving it does not stand still. The C4W system will be continuously updated and improved based on emerging research finding and knowledge from a range of underpinning disciplines.
Focus
The C4W organisation will not deliver introductory courses for people wishing to become “life coaches” but will focus on the delivery of C4W training to experienced professionals wishing to become more knowledgeable and skilled at helping their current and future clients.
Comprehensiveness of the solution
C4W is more comprehensive than existing coaching systems and approaches, not least because is incorporates and builds upon several existing approaches including cognitive-behavioural therapy and coaching, motivational interviewing and positive psychology. It is designed to work with both health and clinical populations, and to be delivered by individuals of diverse professional backgrounds from a wide range of settings.
Customer Experience and Support
The 4 day C4W training course is designed to be not just an educational experience for attendees, but also a rewarding and fulfilling one. In addition to a range of self-assessment exercises and hand-on supervision and coaching, participants will have the opportunity to safely discuss their current approach to working with clients, their treatment and general life philosophies, their concerns and their aspirations. The workshop will also be designed to help participants make new friends, acquaintances and networks, know where to go for additional information, and feel excited and confident about practicing C4W in the future with their clients. The quality of the participant and coaching materials will be superior to that provided by other training organisations, as will the web-site experience and usefulness.
Being Evidence-based
Many coaching approaches are based on someone’s opinion as to what works, rather than actual research evidence of effectiveness. Whilst the C4W coaching approach, being new, has not yet been evaluated, the core individual elements of which it is comprised have been subject to research studies. We will thus be in a position to say that the C4W approach contains ingredients of proven effectiveness, and can point potential customers to the relevant evidence base.
Co-operation
The C4W organisation will seek to co-operate with other selected training organisations where synergy exists. For instance, people who have been trained in the C4W system may wish to undertake further training (CPD) in one or more of the elements that make up the C4W approach – e.g. Cognitive Behavioural Coaching, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy or Positive Psychology. We will make suggestions as to which training providers they might go to for such Professional Development, until such time as C4W decides to run its own shorter workshops in specialist areas.
We hope that this co-operative approach will result in the C4W organisation being viewed favourably by selected other training organisations, who may in turn recommend training in C4W to their client base.
